The Verdun Walsh Difference

We commonly hear people express disappointment that their Strata Manager is constantly changing, is never available and does not seem to know what they are doing. Whilst there are reasons for this, at Verdun Walsh we are changing the approach to Strata Management in this rapidly growing and evolving industry.

Think about how many strata buildings there were 15 or 30 years ago. Now think about how many people you now know who live or work in a strata complex. Strata is growing at unprecedented rates. You only have to look at how many cranes are visible in Sydney and ponder many of these are likely new strata buildings under construction.

With this in mind, the sad reality is that the strata industry is struggling to keep pace with demand because of a significant short supply of people keen on working in strata. And when the industry can attract new people, they often confront buildings already agitated due to past experiences, they receive minimal training because businesses do not have the time and they are expected to regularly work late nights to accommodate traditional meeting expectations (often in dark and intimidating venues). It is little wonder retaining staff in this environment is challenging.

At Verdun Walsh, we believe it all revolves around mutual respect.

  • Respect for owners who invest considerable funds buying properties they just want maintained.

  • Respect for the staff servicing the industry and for the difficult jobs they undertake.

  • Respect for contractors who supply the industry with vital services.

  • Respect for residents who wish to enjoy peaceful, well maintained buildings.

Without mutual respect for ALL of these elements, strata management travels into a gradual decline in trust and performance.

At Verdun Walsh we have no interest in being the biggest. We can live without the stress of working in a sweatshop environment of inexperienced people, constantly trying to put out fires. Our goal is to keep our portfolio manageable by selecting plans who are keen to work with us and us with them. We do this by attracting experienced staff and providing them with a warm and supported environment where they retain a healthy work life balance. And then we constantly look for ways to gain efficiencies to ensure we can plough through our work and give our clients the best level service. It is the constant pursuit of ethical and sustainable practices to ensure we enjoy what we are doing meaning our clients receive a superior experience.
